In The Aftermath Of Subang's Deadly Accident, The DPR Asks The Ministry Of Transportation To Open Data On PO Bus Permits

JAKARTA - Member of Commission V DPR RI from the Democratic Faction, Irwan asked the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to immediately conduct an in-depth investigation into the bus accident in Subang, West Java. The reason is, there are allegations that the bus carrying a group of SMK students in Depok, West Java is not used properly.

"The Minister of Transportation must immediately conduct an in-depth investigation, so that the government provides safe and comfortable transportation to the public," said Irwan when contacted, Monday, May 13.

Irwan also urged the Ministry of Transportation to open data on the approval of the Otobus Company (PO) following the accident. He hopes that the Ministry of Transportation will carry out its supervisory function regarding the feasibility of buses and other land transportation.

"The Ministry of Transportation must immediately evaluate and disclose all data related to the transportation business license for the Otobus Company," said the Democratic legislator.

In addition, Irwan also assessed that the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation needs to start optimizing supervision at all terminals. He emphasized that bus feasibility tests must be checked regularly.

"Fungsional terminals under the Directorate General of Land Transportation must be optimized as surveillance locations and test the feasibility of the buses operating," said Irwan.

Previously, the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Hendro Sugiatno said that every Otobus (PO) company that does not have a license but is determined to operate its vehicle will be subject to criminal sanctions.

This was reiterated following the accident of the Trans Putera Fajar Bus in Ciater, Subang, West Java which brought the Lingga Kencana Depok Vocational School group.

It is known that the Trans Putera Fajar Bus on the Mitra Darat application does not have a transportation permit and the periodic test pass status (BLU-e) is valid until December 6, 2023.

"For PO buses that are not licensed but operating their vehicles will be subject to criminal sanctions," said Hendro Sugiatno in an official statement, Sunday, May 12.

As is known, it is suspected that due to the failed brake, a tourism bus carrying a group of SMK students from Depok, West Java had an accident on the Ciater derivative road, Subang, Saturday, May 11, at around 18.45 WIB. A total of 11 people were reported to have died, including a motorcyclist.
