DKI Provincial Government Asks People To Report Findings Of Sick Sacrificial Animals

Head of the Department of Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture Suharini Eliawati asked the public to report if any findings of sick sacrificial animals ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1445 H.

"It is hoped that support from the community will report to KPKP officers in each region if sick sacrificial animals are found," Eli told reporters, Sunday, May 12.

It is estimated that around 63 thousand sacrificial animals will enter Jakarta to meet the needs of Eid celebrations, consisting of cows, buffalo, goats, and sheep.

Eli revealed that most of the sacrificial livestock entering Jakarta came from East Java and Lampung.

In line with that, the DKI Provincial Government carried out a number of efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in sacrificial animals.

Among them are implementing the traffic procedure for sacrificial animals in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2023 concerning Procedures for Supervision of Animal Traffic, Animal Products, and Media for Bringing Other Animal Diseases within the territory of the Republic of Indonesia.

"It was also carried out to socialize the traffic procedure for sacrificial animals to businesses that supply sacrificial animals in DKI Jakarta," said Eli.

Then, carry out animal health checks at shelters and the sale of sacrificial animals.

"The examination includes administrative documents for animal traffic, health and animal feasibility at animal shelters, and sample examinations for anthrax disease," he explained.

Population immunity is also carried out on ruminansia livestock in DKI Jakarta by vaccinating mouth and nail disease (PMK), lumpy skin disease (LSD), and anthrax.

Eli admitted that the disease was a challenge faced in fulfilling the safety and health aspects of sacrificial animals being traded in Jakarta. Thus, mapping the spread of animal diseases from the area of origin is also carried out.

"We'll map it out. In Lampung it's about the next three months and the beginning of the year, what kind of disease control maps are they actually," explained Eli.

"Jakarta is not a cultivation. So, those who come in and out are very dynamic. That is one that we are investigating, whether they have received the vaccine, until then the medicines," he added.
