State Loss Around IDR 32.7 Billion, North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Receives Delegation Of Suspects And Second Phase Of Evidence

The North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) received the transfer of suspects and evidence in the second stage of the alleged corruption case in the opening of a forest area involving the former Head of the Daily District, Samosir Regency, with the initials WS. This case has cost the state around Rp32.7 billion.

"Today, we received the second phase of delegation from the Samosir District Attorney and detained at the Medan Class I State Detention Center," said Head of the Legal Information Section of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Yos A Tarigan in Medan, Wednesday.

Quoting ANTARA, Thursday, May 9, Yos said the detention of the suspect WS was carried out in connection with a criminal act that was allegedly not in accordance with the stipulated conditions.

He said the former sub-district head was suspected of committing a criminal act of corruption in the permit to open land for settlements and agriculture in the forest area of Samosir Regency located in Partungko Naginjang Village, Harian District.

According to him, the primary suspect with Article 2 paragraph (1) subsidiary Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption as amended by Law 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1e of the Criminal Code.

Yos said the series of corruption crimes also involved former Regent Samosir Mangindar Simbolon. Previously, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office demanded Mangindar for four years in prison at the trial at the Medan District Court, Friday (8/3/2024).

Furthermore, the Panel of Judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced former Samosir Regent Mangindar Simbolon to a corruption case in land clearing in Samosir Regency, on Tuesday (19/3).

In addition, the defendant Mangindar Simbolon was sentenced to pay a fine of Rp. 50 million on the condition that if he was not paid, he would be replaced with one month in prison.
