JAKARTA - Member of the Jusuf Kalla (JK) delegation, Hamid Awaludin, said Hamas asked the 10th and 12th Indonesian vice presidents to mediate efforts to end the conflict in Palestine.

Hamid made the statement through his press statement in Kuala Lumpur, Monday (6/5).

He said the warring parties asked Jusuf Kalla to mediate between the two sides to end the violence that had been going on for the past seven months.

In a peaceful effort for Palestine-Israel, JK met with the Palestinian Hamas delegation led by the Political Bureau Officer and Deputy Head of International Affairs Hamas Dr. Bassem Naim.

One of the focuses in the talks is on efforts to stop violent acts that are at the expense of civilians massively, according to the statement.

Hamid said during the meeting Naim revealed the massacre of Israelis against Palestinians in Gaza by committing genocide.

"The world has also condemned Israel's cruel actions, except for the United States. However, as we know US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are overwhelmed by their own people protesting against the actions of the Israeli government," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 6.

The relatively closed meeting took place in an area outside Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (5/5) night. The discussion with Hamas lasted for about three hours.

The meeting was said to have started when one of the Hamas leaders contacted Hamid Awaludin, who is also the former Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, to be able to arrange their meeting and discussion with JK on Sunday (5/5) in a predetermined place.

Hamid said efforts to end the conflict permanently between Israel and Palestine had actually been carried out by JK with the team in July and mid-October 2023.

However, the conversation was stopped due to an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
