Bata Shoe Factory In Purwakarta Closes, More Than 200 Employees Are Laid Off

PURWAKARTA - The Manpower and Transmigration Office of Purwakarta Regency, West Java said that more than 200 people were affected by layoffs (PHK) due to the closure of the Bata shoe factory in the area, PT Sepatu Bata Tbk. Head of the Purwakarta Manpower and Transmigration Office Didi Garnadi, when contacted in Purwakarta, Sunday, May 5, said that his party had received information from management regarding the condition of PT Sepatu Bata which went out of business due to lack of order. "In early May 2024, we received a report on the occurrence of layoffs, because the company is closed," he said.

According to him, due to the lack of orders, PT Sepatu Bata laid off its employees gradually. The number of employees affected by layoffs was 233 people. "The company has reported that it will complete all the rights of its employees who have been laid off, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he said. PT Sepatu Bata Tbk established a factory in Purwakarta since 1994 and officially closed in early May 2024. The termination of the production of the shoe factory located on Jalan Raya Cibening, Bungursari District, Purwakarta has been announced through the disclosure of information on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, May 2, 2024.
