Toddler Dies In Water Channel Got, Police: Incident During Heavy Rain

JAKARTA - A male toddler named Arlan, aged 1 year and 8 months, who had been missing since Friday, May 3, was finally found dead.

The victim was found dead about 100 meters from the crime scene to his house. The victim lives in RT 03/08 Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman. Meanwhile, his body was found in RT 07/08 Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman.

"The victim was there, approximately 100 meters (the distance from the victim's house and where the victim was found dead). (at the time of the incident) When it was raining and his mother cooked. The victim was not yet 2 years old, he was only able to walk," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Matraman Police, AKP Mochamad Zen to VOI, Sunday, May 5.

Unfortunately, the body of the innocent toddler was found in a water channel in front of a resident's house in Gang Salim, RT 07/08, Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman District, East Jakarta on Sunday, May 5, noon. The victim was found at around 10.30 WIB.

"We do an external post-mortem according to the SOP, later we will help the process of taking (the body). There is no sign of violence," he said.

When the victim disappeared on Friday, May 3, Pisangan Baru area, Matraman District was hit by heavy rain. Then the victim was found to be playing in front of his house without supervision from his parents.

The victim allegedly fell into a sewer and was carried away by the water current. The victim was also reported missing and uploaded to several social media.

"There is no flooding (at the location), but children aged 1 year and 8 months are sewers, including large ones, if there is already a flow of strong water," he said.

Currently, the Matraman Police Criminal Investigation Unit is still examining 3 eyewitnesses to the incident. However, from the results of the examination, they stated that at the time of the incident the victim was missing, the area was hit by heavy rain.

"All witnesses stated that it was because it was raining big, (the victim) was carried away by the current, but did not see the current being carried away. But at the time of the incident it was when it rained," explained AKP Zen, his nickname.

Until now, the case is still being handled by the Matraman Police. The police are also still examining other witnesses.
