JAKARTA - Member of Commission D DPRD DKI Jakarta Judistira Hermawan questioned the coverage of clean water services in Jakarta which is still stagnant. Currently, the coverage of water services by BUMD PAM Jaya is still 65.58 percent.

This means that there are still many houses that cannot access clean water, which is a basic requirement. Meanwhile, the DKI Provincial Government targets comprehensive clean water services to residents up to 100 percent by 2030.

The scope of clean water services in Jakarta has not yet increased, Judistira considers it a serious challenge. Given, after the transfer of the capital city to Nusantara, Jakarta is predicted to be a global city.

"We need to think about the availability of clean water. So we don't business as usual. We are talking about the interests of the next 3 or even 10 years. With this new status of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) as a global city area, we have to think about it," Judistira said in her statement, Thursday, May 2.

Judistira also highlighted that the condition of the lack of clean water experienced by some Jakarta residents was exacerbated by the difference in the quality of water between regions.

"I think we have to think about water sources in Jakarta by adding water sources. We know that the North Jakarta area has different taste quality from the quality of water in West Jakarta, especially in South Jakarta. North Jakarta is a bit salty," said Judistira.

Judistira also urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately carry out programs in the field of water supply which can have a broad and fair impact on all Jakarta residents.

"We want that in 2025 there will be better quality improvements in terms of management and development in Jakarta. Especially equitable distribution of clean water coverage," said Judistira.

On a separate occasion, PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin installed a new connection for 77 thousand piped water customers in Jakarta during 2024.

This new connection plan is carried out continuously every year in order to meet the target of one million new connections by 2030.

"Our network expansion target this year is at 77 thousand new connections. This is a number that a city has never experienced to connect water. The largest has reached 25 thousand. So, this is three times the number," said Arief some time ago.

Arief said that this year's new piping water service connection was carried out in the East Jakarta area. PAM Jaya also accelerated the process of connecting permits to the central government.

"We are chasing time, we eat to catch up on coverage. At least in East Jakarta is finished," said Arief.
