The Roar And Vibration Of Mount Ruang Is Still Felt By Sitaro Residents

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) team reported that residents in Tagulandang, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi were still feeling the tremors and rumbling sounds that were caused after Mount Ruangu erupted again this morning.

"It was reported that the condition of the incident in the field was quite strong. It was heard from Tagulandang Island when Mount Ruang erupted again this morning," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 30.

He explained, in addition to the vibrations of local residents, they also still feel symptoms of volcanology, such as rain of volcanic material ash and rock pebbles that have soared high into space since this morning at around 02.35 WITA until this afternoon.

The ash and rock rain was reported to have a wider coverage when compared to the eruption that occurred on April 17, 2024.

This was proven after the emergency response post in Apengsala Village, Tamulandang, which is seven kilometers outside the Disaster Prone Area (KRB) was also affected by the rain of stones and gravel.

He stated that for security reasons and safety, the residents of the relevant authorities were forced to turn off the electricity network in Tagulandang.

"The joint team is still conducting emergency and rapid assessments because of this eruption, and optimizing efforts to evacuate residents to safe places," he said.

Previously, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) officially set the status of Mount Ruang to rise to level IV (Awas).

The increase in status was carried out after the Gunungstratovolcano erupted again and released an eruption column reaching 2,000 meters from above the peak accompanied by continuous roar and tremors.

PVMBG also recommends immediately evacuating residents who are within a radius of six kilometers from the center of the active crater of Mount Ruang (Tagulandang and its surroundings) which absolutely cannot have any activity.

Especially for those who live near coastal areas that have the potential to be affected by the ejection of incandescent rocks, the overflow of hot clouds (surgery), and the potential for tsunamis due to the collapse of part of the mountain's body into the sea.
