The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Malang Resort Police, East Java, arrested three suspects who were a gang of burglars of empty houses in the Malang Regency area.
Head of Public Relations of Malang Police, Iptu Ahmad Taufik, said the gang arrested were KI (41), MA (33), and AS (42).
"Kemi arrested three perpetrators of theft in Dampit District, one of whom is a recidivist," said Taufik in Kepanjen, Malang Regency, as reported by Antara, Monday, April 29.
Taufik explained that the perpetrator with the initials MA was a recidivist who was caught in cases of assault and theft. MA, recorded twice as serving a sentence in prison.
According to him, the theft incident in the Dampit sub-district occurred on March 13, 2024 or during Ramadan.
The victim with the initials TY, who lives in Pamotan Village, Dampit District, suffered a loss of up to Rp. 82 million due to the theft of the gang.
A joint team from the Malang Police Satreskrim and Dampit Police then conducted an investigation and succeeded in arresting the first perpetrator with the initials KI at his home in Undaan Village, Turen District, Malang Regency, on Saturday (27/4).
"From KI's confession, the police then arrested the Supreme Court and the US in Dampit District on the same day," he said.
He added that in carrying out his actions, the perpetrator divided roles and had observed the environment around the victim's house. There were perpetrators guarding outside the house, while the other perpetrator entered the target house by prying the window.
"The perpetrators entered by prying open the window, then taking valuables, such as cash, cell phones, and gold jewelry. The total loss suffered by the victim reached Rp82 million," he added.
When arresting the perpetrators, the Malang Police Satreskrim Team confiscated a number of evidences, namely two mobile phones and a two-wheeled vehicle used by the perpetrators in carrying out their actions.
"Investigators are still developing the statements of the suspects regarding the possibility of committing crimes elsewhere," he said.
Currently, the three perpetrators are charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a threat of seven years in prison.
