JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chose to wait for its former spokesman, Febri Diansyah, to testify at trial rather than boosting his internal head after it was revealed that there was a leak into the investigation into the corruption case of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said the prosecutor would first hear the testimonies of Febri, Rasamala Aritonang, and Donal Fariz who became Syahrul's legal counsel regarding the leak of the investigation documents. After that they will conduct an analysis.

"Of course we will confirm it first in front of the trial. After that, we will definitely internally also carry out further analysis and search," Ali told reporters quoted on Monday, April 29.

This step was chosen by the anti-corruption commission because they found a legal opinion document (LO) compiled by the three.

This finding was obtained when searching the house of Syahrul Yasin Limpo and the Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery of the Directorate General of Infrastructure and Facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture Muhammad Hatta.

The preparation of this document is thought to have come from leaked investigation documents. "Indeed, the product emerged from a search at the suspect's house, both SYL and Hatta," said the spokesman with the prosecutor's background.

Ali agrees that lawyers accompanying the suspect are indeed allowed to get minutes of examination and other files. However, the process is during an investigation or delegation to court.

As previously reported, KPK prosecutor Meyer Simanjuntak said three lawyers who had accompanied former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo would be asked to testify. They are Febri Diansyah, Rasamala Aritonang, and Donal Fariz.

Their statements were needed to confirm the witnesses who claimed to have been summoned by Syahrul's lawyer.

Syahrul is currently undergoing trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court. He is suspected of extorting his employees of up to Rp44.5 billion during the 2020-2023 period with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono and the Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery of the Directorate General of Infrastructure and Facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture Muhammad Hatta.

This money was then used for the benefit of Syahrul's wife and family, invited gifts, the NasDem Party, religious events, aircraft charters to Umrah and sacrifices. In addition, he was also charged with receiving gratuities of Rp40.6 billion from January 2020 to October 2023.
