The Sumbawa Resort Police, West Nusa Tenggara, revealed the case of a fake Brimob with the initials RS (30) who was suspected of stealing a two-wheeled vehicle in the Poto Tano area.
Sumbawa Police Chief AKBP Yasmara Harahap, said the case was revealed thanks to information support from the public.
"From the results of the follow-up to public information, we managed to catch a fake Brimob with the initials RS while on a ferry to Lombok Island," Yasmara said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, April 28.
He emphasized that the perpetrator from Bima City has now been named a suspect with the application of Article 362 of the Criminal Code which regulates theft.
"We have secured the person concerned at the Sumbawa Police Detention Center to undergo a legal process as a suspect in a theft case," he said.
Yasmara explained that the arrest of the hospital on the ferry to Lombok Island took place on Thursday night (25/4). The suspect was arrested with evidence of a vehicle belonging to the victim of the theft.
"During the arrest on the ferry, this suspect had evaded the allegations and claimed to be a member of the Mobile Brigade," he said.
However, thanks to the evidence of the results of the investigation that confirmed the hospital's theft, the police succeeded in making the suspect admit his criminal act.
"Initially, when asked for a KTA (member card), this suspect could not show and from the evidence that was a member in the field, this suspect finally admitted his actions," said Yasmara.
From the results of the examination, it was revealed that the suspect's modus operandi was to carry out the theft by visiting the victim's house and pretending to borrow the victim's cellphone.
"The method is to borrow the victim's cellphone to call the motorcycle taxi, he said to pick up his brother at the supermarket near the port," he said.
The victim, who was not aware of the mode, then left the suspect who was calling his neighbor's house.
"When the victim went to a neighbor's house, there the suspect took advantage of the situation of taking the victim's vehicle inside the house with the key position still installed in the vehicle," he said.
