"The victim is Muhammad Ben Abubakar (47) who is a resident of Gampong Didoh, East Mutiara District, Pidie Regency," said MPKG Chairman, Sulaiman Ahmad, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 22.

Sulaiman said the incident occurred when the victim and other residents drove three wild elephants on Sunday (21/4) afternoon in the plantation area of the residents of Glumpang Tiga.

"The wild animal went berserk and turned around to chase us, unfortunately he fell so that the elephant headed for the victim, then his body was trampled on," he said.

Meanwhile, other residents who survived tried to burn the firecrackers by pointing it at the elephant that went berserk, and finally the elephant got away from the victim. Then, they were immediately rushed to Abdullah Syafi'i Beureunuen Hospital for post-mortem. Currently the victim is safe and is still being treated.

According to him, farmers who depend on gardening in the area are very restless because of this elephant conflict, even their plants are also disturbed, such as banana, corn and cocoa betel nut.

"We ask the government, starting from sub-districts, districts, provinces, to pay serious attention to the problem of elephant conflicts that have occurred so far," he said.
