Allocate Funds Of IDR 34 Billion, Ministry Of PUPR Continues Development Of West Aceh Sea Embankments

MEULABOH - The Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) in the 2024 fiscal year will resume the construction of wavebreaking embankments along the coast in Meulaboh, the capital city of West Aceh Regency. "“Alhamdulillah, this year the Ministry of PUPR has allocated a budget of IDR 43 billion to continue the embankment project in West Aceh," said Head of the West Aceh Regency Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office, Dr Kurdi MT to ANTARA in Meulaboh, Monday, April 22. The construction of the embankment is later expected to overcome the issue of coastal abrasion which has been complained of by the community in Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency. According to him, the construction of the embankment carried out by the central government is considered effective in preventing coastal abrasion, as well as avoiding the potential for tidal disasters that occur in residential communities that live around the coast. Kurdi said, in 2020, the Ministry of PUPR has also allocated a budget with a ceiling of Rp. 17 billion to build a wave-breaking embankment in Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency. In 2021, the central government will also allocate a budget of IDR 33 billion to continue a similar project. Kurdi said, with the continued construction of the coastal safety embankment in Meulaboh, it is hoped that it can protect the community from coastal abrasion and natural disasters. The West Aceh Regency Government hopes that the continued construction of the embankment this year can overcome the problem of tidal flooding that occurs every year in the area. Previously, the central government planned a long embankment construction that will be built by the central government in the area reaching 1.6 kilometers, which stretches from Suak Indrapuri Village, Pasir Village, Ujong Kalak Village, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency.

"The existence of embankments along the Meulaboh coastline is really needed by the community to prevent tidal flooding or full moon tides," said Dr Kurdish.
