KENDARI - The Plant and Wildlife Supervision Team (TSL) of the Southeast Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of protected wildlife in the form of cassava, parrots, and cendrawasih birds at Murhum Port, Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Head of Region II BKASDA Sultra La Ode Kaida said, in an effort to thwart the smuggling of protected animals, his party did not do it alone, but in collaboration with the Baubau Quarantine, Navy (AL), and PT Pelni Baubau. "A number of protected animals are planned to be smuggled through the KM Takpulu ship, which departs from Murhum Port, Baubau City," Kaida said when contacted, Antara, Monday, April 22. When searched, his party found several animals alive, namely steel cendrawasih birds, spinach parrots, red parrots, and airlifters. "The team then identified the type of animal that was found," he said. Kaida said that based on the identification results, his party found wounds on the parents' feet which were suspected of being entangled by the perpetrators. He explained that the Goodminton, which is usually known as a typical Australian animal, is currently receiving temporary treatment at the Baubau SKW Office. "The Kangaroo animal who has been popular as an Australian animal is also found in the Papua region. KM Takpulu is a Pelni ship that has a regular Jakarta-Fakfak-Jakarta route," Kaida explained. During the search of the ship, Kaida continued, his party did not find any signs of the perpetrators who carried out the animals.

It is known that some of the animals that were thwarted for infiltration were threeES and four cendrawasih birds. As for the parrots, the Southeast Sulawesi BKSDA Team found two types, namely the Bawan parrot and the red parrot, which are thought to have come from the Aru Islands.
