YOGYAKARTA - Recovery of the availability of blood bags after Eid by participating in holding blood donation activities needs to be carried out. The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) appealed to various agencies in this province to help make it happen.

"We hope that agencies or institutions that will hold activities can add blood donation events," said Head of PMI DI Yogyakarta Development and Services Division Warjiyani in Yogyakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, April 20.

Warjiyani said that until now the stock of blood bags in each district/city is still running low even though it is sufficient to meet demand.

"The results of the blood donation were immediately used, coupled with mutual support between PMI Blood Donor Units (UDD)," he said.

According to him, the low stock of blood bags was triggered by the small number of donors since the end of Ramadan until the 2024 Eid holiday.

To restore supplies, he said, PMIs in five districts/cities are currently intensifying blood donors in their respective offices.

However, Warjiyani said that he still needed support from other agencies, both government and private, because blood donations outside PMI were usually able to contribute more than 50 percent of the inventory.

"If you look at it like in the cities of Yogyakarta and Sleman, blood donation in the PMI building has indeed increased. However, there are not many blood donation activities outside," he said.

As an illustration, he said, based on data from Friday (19/4) to 14.13 WIB, the blood stock at PMI Sleman for blood type A of intact blood component or Whole Blood (WB) remains two bags, red blood cells or seven PRC bags, and three platelets or TC.

Meanwhile, for blood type B for WB there are three bags, PRC five bags, and TC three bags. Blood group O for WB two bags and PRC five bags. Blood group AB for WB two bags, PRC three bags, and TC three bags.

On average, the supply in other districts is not much different, he said, except at PMI Yogyakarta City which has much more supplies so that it is still able to contribute to the needs of other regions.

"Yogyakarta City, the stock is safe. When viewed from D-2 Lebaran to D+3, the number of donors reaches 313 people," he said.

According to him, district/city PMIs are ready to pick up the ball at another location that organizes mass blood donation activities.

Warjiyani also hopes that on the sidelines of the busyness of the community will take the time to donate blood, especially if they have received a donor schedule notification from PMI.

"If it's time for donors, especially since there has been a donor notification again so that donors can immediately," he concluded.
