JAKARTA - Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Lotharia Latif strictly forbade the game of war using toy weapons by teenagers in Ambon.
This is said to have responded to viral news on social media about brawls between residents because they did not accept that their children were shot by toy bullets.
"I appeal to parents to be more super extra looking after and supervising children, related to recent rampant events of playing war and even at night using toy guns that cause continuous brawls," Lotharia said in Ambon, quoted from Antara, Friday, April 19.
He admitted that he was concerned that many children and teenagers were involved in the brawl which began with the games of war. Even though they have plastic bullets, if fired on the eye, it can have a big impact. Even this bullet can also cause abrasions when exposed to the skin.
The brawls or wars, said the Kapolda, if not prevented by the parents and community leaders in their respective regions, would be able to expand into a major conflict.
He continued, the game of children and adolescents in Ambon was not educational at all but had the potential to cause conflict or chaos in society. Apart from being able to have a big impact, this game also instills the character of violence and the character of hurting others.
"Things like this are homework for parents, teachers, religious leaders and all of us. So far, the Police have taken all the steps, both prevention to the law enforcement process in solving problems, but of course the Police need support for the role of parents from home," he said.
The number 1 person of the Maluku Regional Police invites all parties, especially parents, to be able to take good care of and educate their children. There are still many other games that are good and foster intimacy and a brave soul but remain positive, not mocking and blaspheming each other who finally conflicted.
"TEACH them to love each other, make the relationship of pela and gandong as a lesson, instill them with a sense of tolerance and maintain a safe, peaceful and prosperous Maluku," he hoped.
