BADUNG - I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, recorded two international flights affected by the eruption of Mount Ruang in Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi, today.

General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Habdy Heryudhitiawan, said the closure was based on monitoring of volcanic ash as a result of the eruption of Mount Ruang and based on Notam number: A 1003/24 NOTAMR A1000/24 regarding the closure of aerodrome at Sam Ratulangi Airport.

"It has an impact on flights from Bali to Manado (North Sulawesi) which have been temporarily suspended due to the eruption of Mount Ruang," said Handy, Thursday, April 18.

The eruption of Mount Ruang in North Sulawesi resulted in the cancellation of several flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport on Thursday (18/4) including Garuda Indonesia flight number GA 884 to Narita, Japan, via Sam Ratulangi Airport, with plans to carry 81 passengers and Juneyao Airlines flight number HO 1356 to Shanghai, China, which crosses the airspace affected by the volcanic ash of Mount Ruang which plans to carry 88 passengers.

"Passengers from the affected flights have been handled by the airline in accordance with applicable regulations. We can convey that in general flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport run normally," he added.

"We continue to monitor the current situation in the direction of the distribution of Mount Ruang volcanic ash through papertests and always coordinate with AirNav, airlines, and BMKG to ensure the safety of flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport," he said.
