JAKARTA - The United States (US) announced new sanctions against Iran following missile and drone attacks on Israel last weekend.

The US Treasury statement said the sanctions targeted 16 individuals and two entities related to Iran's UAV (drone) production, including the type of engine that powers the UAV of Iran's Shahed variant, which was used in the April 13 attack, as reported by Reuters, Thursday, April 18.

The Treasury Department said it also appointed five companies in various jurisdictions providing component materials for steel production to Iran's Baja Khuzestan Company (KSC), one of Iran's largest steel producers, or buying steel products into KSC.

Also targeted, the statement said, was three Iranian automaker Bahman Group subsidiaries, which are said to support Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The statement said at the same time as the Department of Finance's actions, Britain imposed sanctions targeting several Iranian military organizations, individuals, and entities involved in Iran's UAV industry and ballistic missiles.

Tehran said it launched an attack on April 13 in retaliation for alleged Israeli attacks on April 1 against the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
