2030 No New TPA Development, Bogor City Focuses On Handling Household Waste

BOGOR- The Bogor City Government which has announced that there will be no more construction of waste disposal sites (TPA) by 2030 will shift its focus on handling household waste.

At the end of this retirement period, the Mayor of Bogor, West Java, Bima Arya, ensured that he would continue to fight for the Ciliiwung Naturalization Task Force to continue to be strengthened and strengthened for the goal of completing waste from upstream, from the source from households.

Currently, 38 tons of waste has been collected from the house, 70.6 tons of organic waste and 29 tons of plastic waste.

Secretary of the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force, Een Irawan, said that since the formation by the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya through the Mayor's Decree since 2018, the task force has been running for approximately 6 years.

The initial intention of establishing this Task Force was to encourage changes in people's behavior, because the problems in the river in Ciliwung are environmental problems related to behavioral and cultural issues.

"Well, actually we are trying to solve this waste problem upstream, namely in the household, how do we do it? Yes, accompanied by residents, facilitated, educated and socialized how the impact will be, how to manage waste properly. Now, that's the mission to solve problems at the source and also solve regional waste, meaning that no more waste is brought to the TPA," he said in a written statement received Wednesday, April 17.

This continued, Een as an effort for the City of Bogor to prepare Indonesia without a new TPA in 2030, as announced by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Compared to other areas, he said, Bogor City had already prepared a step earlier for the preparation.

"For that I convey to the guardian that we must prepare from ourselves, the local government from the region and this is one of the efforts. Indeed, it is still on a small scale, only 45 Ciliwung task forces with the existing capabilities to accompany 48 RTs. Currently, the scheme has been read every RT on average. Plastic waste is in 200-300, kilos of plastic waste per month that are not brought to the TPA, so about 1.2 tons of one RT per year, "he explained.

According to him, to make this scheme a massive movement to manage waste from the source, there needs to be a strong policy from the central government. So that not only in Bogor City, but also in other regencies/cities.

The Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya accompanied by the Secretary of the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force, Een Irawan Putra, directly observed the process of handling waste from the source through assistance carried out by the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force by sorting waste from home.

There were two RTs visited, namely RT 4/Saresmi Village, Tanah Sareal District and RT 1/8 Bantarjati Lebak Village, Bantarjati Village, North Bogor District, Monday, April 15.

While walking through the densely populated settlements around the railroadbanks and riverbanks, Bima Arya saw that each house already has its own trash can which is used to sort waste. The two trash bins contain organic and non-organic waste.

The sorted waste will then be collected in a shelter where then some are processed and sold to collectors of used goods, some are taken to Mekar Wangi's plastic processing site and some are used as fertilizer or compost.

Bima Arya said the Bogor City Ciliwung Task Force was not only focused on river naturalization, but also on building the culture of residents so that they could manage waste from home. Currently, there are 20 priority RTs from the 48 RT target by the end of 2024.

"Thank you to Kang Een and his task force friends who have been very extraordinary, tireless, do not give up. There is a natural selection of course, there are those who fall in the middle of the road but what is left is God willing, the choice and the best," said Bima Arya.
