The Mayor Of Medan Will Sanction The Lurah To Increase Food Prices In Cheap Markets

The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra Bobby Nasution stated that he was ready to take action against the village head who raised the prices of foodstuffs and a number of products sold at the Medan City Government cheap market.

"We will act as village heads who increase prices in cheap markets," said Bobby on the sidelines of the Medan City Government's environmental apparatus gathering, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 16.

His party has received complaints about the practice of increasing food prices and a number of products from prices should be in the cheap market welcoming the holy month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri.

The mayor ensured that this practice did not only occur in 1-2 urban villages out of a total of 151 sub-district points spread across 21 sub-districts throughout the city of Medan.

The Medan City Government is holding cheap markets to maintain the stability of food prices which tend to rise ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri from March 5, 2024 to April 5, 2024.

"There are many who join the cheap market, more than ten urban villages," said Bobby.

Supposedly, he continued, the cheap market held by the Medan City Government could help the people of Medan City during the Ramadan fasting month, and not even make it difficult.

"In the next few days, we will impose sanctions on those who are proven to be involved in raising the price of goods in the cheap market," he said.

His party also ensures that there are no problems for state civil servants (ASN) within the Medan City Government to provide optimal service to the local community.

"Both at the service, sub-district, sub-district levels, we are ready to serve the community," said Bobby.

Secretary of the Medan City Cooperatives, SMEs, Trade and Industry Office Erwin Saleh explained that this cheap market is one of the efforts of the Medan City Government to control the inflation rate of basic commodities.

"There are 151 low-cost market points with a subsidy value allocated IDR 4 billion. There are eight types of basic commodities sold in this cheap market," he said.
