Iran's Attack On Israel Is Called A Defense Against State Sovereignty

JAKARTA - Academician from Pelita Harapan University (UPH) Edwin Tambunan said Iran's attack on Israel was a form of self-defense as a sovereign nation.

"Iran claims it is self-defense against the unilateral action by Israel, which the international community has not responded to at all in the form of condemning or other actions," said Edwin Tambunan when contacted by Antara in Jakarta, Monday.

Iran's attack, according to him, was retaliation against Israeli actions some time ago against the consulate general in Damascus, Syria.

After the attack, Edwin continued, only a number of countries gave warnings. However, there was no firm action from the international community against the action.

"If it is used as an exterritoriality principle, representatives of a country in another country are territory from that country, what Iran is doing is relatively justifiable," he explained.

The lecturer for the International Relations Study Program advised Indonesia to remain firm, as mandated by the constitution, namely maintaining world peace and not tolerating war.

"Indonesia must express its attitude so that all parties can restrain themselves," he said.

Earlier, Iranian Islamic Republic Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Amir Saeid Iravani confirmed that his country's military operation against Israel on Saturday (13/4) was an attempt to defend itself.

"The Iranian operation is entirely a manifestation of Iran's inherent right to self-defense. The completed action is necessary and proportional," Iravani said at the UN Security Council's emergency hearing on Sunday (14/4).
