Indonesian People Celebrate Eid Al-Fitr 1445 Hijri In Cuba

JAKARTA - The Indonesian people celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri and continue with the Halal Bi Halal event at the Wisma Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Havana, Cuba.

In a written statement received in Jakarta, Sunday, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Cuba Nana Yuliana and with the staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Havana held Eid prayers at the Abdallah Mosque on Wednesday (10/4).

Eid al-Fitr celebration activities continued with Halal Bi Halal at Wisma Duta with the Indonesian people. Ambassador Nana said the atmosphere of Eid is quite felt with a round of vegetables and chicken opor, even though it is far from the country.

"Similarly, the Indonesian people in the Dominican Republic, which is the concurrent country of the Indonesian Embassy in Havana, celebrate Eid in a simple but very memorable manner," he said.

To note, as a country with a communist government system, the Cuban government provides freedom for the community to carry out worship in accordance with their respective beliefs, including for the Muslim community.

Islam entered Cuba from 1808 which was brought by slaves from Africa.

Although more than 50 percent of Cubans adhere to Christianity, Islam is one of the most developed religions since 1970, especially with many students from South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa receiving scholarships from the Cuban Government.

There is only one mosque in downtown Havana, namely Abdallah Mosque was inaugurated as a mosque in 2015.

Since the Abdallah Mosque in Havana, Muslim activities have been easier with Friday prayers, Tarawih and Eid al-Fitr. The dome delivered by Imam is carried out in Spanish.

In every Friday prayer activity and Eid prayer, Indonesian Muslim communities can gather together and stay in touch with fellow Muslims from many countries.
