Not Strongly Supporting Water Flow, Maringkik Island Bridge, East Lombok Collapses

JAKARTA - The pedestrian bridge in Maringkik Island Village, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) collapsed so that people on the island had difficulty crossing.

"This bridge was damaged while the water was receding, fortunately there were no casualties when it collapsed," said former Head of Maringkik Island Village Nusa Pati in Mataram, Friday, April 12, as reported by Antara.

This bridge was built in 2016 by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. However, currently the bridge, which has cost hundreds of millions, is in dire condition.

"The damage to this bridge was caused by a pile of bridges shifting due to a wave of water," he said.

So that when the pair's water occurs, the spurs of this bridge are related which then cause it to collapse. With the condition of a bridge like this, the people of Pulau Maringgakik Village still use this bridge, this is because there is no road access other than the damaged bridge.

"We will continue to use it, but through the stairs close to this bridge, if those that collapse are no longer suitable for use," he said.

This condition has not been reported to the government because of his status as a former village head who is still waiting for a circular from the government regarding the extension of his term of office.

Even if the government later stipulates a position of 8 years, the repair of this bridge will certainly be consulted with the government regarding regulations to repair bridges using village funds.

"Given that our village funds did not reach Rp1 billion, we will ask the regulations, because this bridge requires quite a large fund," he said.
