JAKARTA - A child drowned and was found dead while traveling at Ujung Pandaran Beach, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan on Wednesday (10/4).
"It happened yesterday at around 14.00 WIB and was found at around 18.00 WIB. The victim died," said Head of the East Kotawaringin Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Multazam in Sampit to Antara, Thursday.
The child who drowned was about eight years old. The victim, who is a resident of Jalan Iskandar Sampit, is known to be playing on the beach while traveling with his family.
The victim is said to be on the beach looking for a small shell. The victim disappeared only when his parents looked for him. That's when the girl allegedly drowned.
A search was carried out by the family and local residents. The victim's body was later found at around 18.00 WIB.
Residents are still trying to provide assistance by lifting the victim with a head down directed with the aim that the water that enters the victim's body can come out.
The victim was also immediately rushed to the local health center. Unfortunately, the girl's life was not saved.
Due to this incident, the East Kotawaringin BPBD again appealed to the public to increase their vigilance while traveling at Ujung Pandaran Beach. Parents are asked to closely monitor their children, especially when they play or shower on the beach.
