Viral Mosque Attack In North Luwu, Here's The Fact

LUWU UTARA - Social media has a viral video showing a group of teenagers kicking the door of the Sitangga Mosque in North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. The video was originally narrated as an attack on the mosque.

In the CCTV footage, a group of teenagers can be seen running to the mosque on Saturday, April 6 in the morning, then kicking the main door repeatedly. After carrying out the action, they immediately left the mosque area. Some of the congregation who were practicing in the mosque panicked.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of North Luwu Police, AKP Muh Althof Zainuddin, denied any information that stated that there had been an attack on the mosque.

"It was not an attack on the mosque, but was triggered by a group of teenagers," said Althof Zainuddin, Monday, April 8.

Zainuddin explained that initially there was a fight between groups of teenagers in Baliase Village, Masamba District, North Luwu.

"So initially there was clashes between groups of teenagers. When the police dispersed, several teenagers ran into the mosque. Then seen by other groups, this was what they were chasing into the mosque. So it wasn't an attack on the mosque," he explained.

At that time the group of teenagers forced their way into the mosque by kicking the door. The anarchist action made several congregants who were practicing in the mosque panic.

After receiving the residents' reports and seeing the CCTV footage of the mosque, the Luwu Police immediately moved to find the alleged perpetrator.

"The four people who kicked in the door of the mosque have been arrested. All of them are teenagers, still minors," said Zainuddin.
