Deadly Accident At KM 58 Cikampek During Contraflow, Minister Of Transportation: If You Are Not Disciplined, That's The Risk

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya commented on the accident at KM 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on Monday morning when contraflow was imposed. The minister said the cause of the accident was due to drivers and toll users who did not comply with the rules.

"Usually they are tired or waiting for the rest area or after the rest area there is certain fatigue," said Budi after accompanying President Joko Widodo to review the flow of Eid homecoming at Pasar Senen Station, Monday, April 8.

He said, Karkolantas as Ketupat Operations Command during this year's Eid homecoming and return flow, had carried out its duties well to anticipate any potential accidents.

"When we planned, the plan was very detailed, even one way, contra flow, and so on, it was carried out well. I'm sure if there was an accident, yes, it was unfortunate, but it became a lesson and we can expose the community if it's not disciplined, "said Budi as quoted by Antara.

The Minister of Transportation said he was concerned about the incident that reportedly killed nine people. He will only directly inspect the accident site with the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Monday afternoon.

"I am sorry for the accident. God willing, we can achieve zero accidents. However, with 193 million (residents) going home, of course it is not easy to control in detail. It is not easy," he said.

An accident involving three vehicles, namely Daihatsu GrandMax, Daihatsu Terios, and a bus occurred at km 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on Monday morning.

The police took 12 body bags from the accident site to the Karawang Hospital for further identification.

The incident began when a car came from Jakarta via the contraflow route at km 58 of the Cikampek Toll Road. The car then swerved and crashed into a bus on the Bandung-Jakarta route. Then, there was another car that tried to avoid, but instead hit the car that had previously hit the bus.

The two cars that collided then caught fire.

As a result of the accident, the engineering of contraflow traffic from km 48 to km 70 towards Cikampek was temporarily suspended.
