Central Sulawesi Police Failed To Smuggle 25 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine In Donggala

Central Sulawesi Police managed to thwart the smuggling of 25 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Donggala Regency area. "Members of Sub-Directorate III of the Central Sulawesi Narcotics Directorate received information from the public that there are people who will carry out crystal methamphetamine transactions in the Donggala Regency area and will be taken to Sidrap, South Sulawesi," said Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Police, Kombes Djoko Wienarto during a press conference at the Central Sulawesi Police Headquarters, Antara, Friday, April 5. He explained that the arrest of suspect AM (42) was carried out on March 31, 2024 at around 20:30 WITA in the Donggala Regency area. From the arrest, the police confiscated 25 packs of methamphetamine, two sacks of packaging and one cellphone. "Based on the results of the investigation, the suspect, who is a resident of South Sulawesi, was authorized to take goods based on orders from the boss with the initials E and took goods from K in Malaysia," he explained. He said the 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine was brought from Tarakan, North Kalimantan using a ship with four crew members (ABK) and the plan was to be circulated in the South Sulawesi region. "Arriving at Donggala, we detained four crew members because they were not proven to be involved in the case, but we are still investigating this case," said Djoko. Meanwhile, the Director of Drug Investigation (Dirresnarkoba) of the Central Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Dasmin Ginting, added that the suspect was promised a salary of Rp. 100 million to be in charge of guarding and supervising the drugs until he arrived at his destination. Until now, the police continue to investigate the international network. "Drug smuggling has been carried out twice by the Supreme Court, and we are pursuing the owner of methamphetamine," he said.

In order to account for his actions, suspect AM is suspected of Article 114 paragraph 2 with a maximum penalty of death and a minimum imprisonment of six years. Furthermore, Article 112 paragraph 2 carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a minimum imprisonment of five years.
