BMKG Reminds Flood Potential Because Intensity Rain Is A Week Before Eid

Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati asked the public to be aware of rain with moderate intensity in a number of areas for one week before Eid 2024.

The reason is, the rain, which is predicted to occur during April 3-9, has the potential to cause flooding ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

"Starting April 3-9, namely a week before Eid, what needs to be watched out for is rain with moderate intensity, West Sumatra (West Sumatra), Bengkulu, West Java (West Java), West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan), Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan), Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi), West Sulawesi (Sulbar), South Sulawesi (Sulsel), and Papua," said Dwikorita during a working meeting with Commission V DPR at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 2.

Dwikorita said, there are several locations where natural conditions are prone to flooding even though it is only moderate rain. Therefore, he appealed to the public to always be vigilant.

" Moderate-intensity rain can cause flood or inundation problems. Because of the natural conditions there is also a river meeting that makes it more sensitive to experiencing flooding even though it is not heavy rain," he said.

A week after Lebaran on April 17-23, Dwikorita said, there were several areas where moderate-intensity rain fell.

"Then a week after Eid al-Fitr, April 17 to 23, once again West Kalimantan has moderate intensity. Then Central Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua," added Dwikorita.
