Response To Prabowo And Xi Jinping's Meeting, DPR: Indonesia-China Have A Role In Maintaining Regional Security Stability

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Meutya Hafid, responded to a meeting between Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to him, Mengan's visit to Beijing is a strategic step as Indonesia's effort to ease tension tension in the East Asian region.

Especially in areas with potential conflicts such as the South China Sea, East China Sea, Korean Peninsula, and Taiwan Strait.

"China and Indonesia play an important role in maintaining the stability of regional security when the world economy is uncertain," Meutya Hafid told reporters, Tuesday, March 2.

The Golkar Party politician said Prabowo's visit to China could also be seen from the context of the Indo-Pacific region. Where the rise of China and the epicenter of global growth in the region caused Indo-Pacific to become a'mederation' of the world's great powers, China and the US.

"Indonesia, through Pak Prabowo Subianto's visit, wants to position itself and take a position in dealing with reality, dynamics, and challenges in the Indo-Pacific," he said.

The visit, added Meutya, was also a form of Prabowo Subianto's commitment in continuing the direction of President Joko Widodo's foreign policy. Moreover, Xi Jinping also left his sincere greetings to President Joko Widodo to Prabowo.

"As Chairman of Commission I of the DPR RI, I see congratulations from President Xi Jinping to Pak Prabowo Subianto as president-elect of Indonesia is a diplomatic manners that are very sincere between two friendly countries and have a very long historical relationship," he said.

According to Meutya, this congratulations is also a form of recognition (confession) from China that Indonesia is a strategic partner in the region.

"This is a very good capital for Indonesia under the new government," he concluded. It is known that Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Defense and president-elect to make an official visit to China on March 31 - April 2, 2024. Prabowo's visit to China was his first foreign visit as president-elect.
