Police Check Waste Collectors That Caused The Ciliwung River To Burden

The Bogor Police conducted an examination of M (49 years), a man who collects plastic waste that causes the flow of the Ciliwung River in Kedung Halang Village to foam.

Head of the Bogor City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Lutfi Olot Gigantara, said that from the results of the preliminary examination, the man admitted that he received plastic waste such as rice cans, cans and jerry cans from industry entrepreneurs with soap.

"He admitted that he received the jerry can which contained the soap from the industry industry entrepreneur," Lutfi said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 25.

In addition to examining M, who is still a witness, Lutfi said, there were two local residents who were also questioned by the police.

According to Lutfi, these two people have never seen foam in the river. However, the two residents saw M often doing activities on the riverbank.

These two people are people around there. From his explanation, he did witness that this person was indeed doing a business like this, but had never seen any foam," he explained.

Lutfi explained, M often washes plastic waste in the river. It is estimated that when washing plastic waste from the soap industry, the remaining chemical liquid is carried away by the river flow and causes foam.

"That's why the findings and the Environment Agency (DLH) will check what the foam or gel is like," he said.

In the future, he said, the owner of the soap industry will also be questioned by the police.

"We will develop this entrepreneur how his system is, how to protect the waste, why can it be done free of charge to other people so that it can result like this," said Lutfi.

The appearance of foam in the Ciliwung River, Kedung Halang Village, was first seen by residents on Saturday (23/3/2024) morning. The findings were then reported to the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force, regional elements, and DLH Bogor City.

A joint team from the Bogor City Government consisting of the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force, DLH, Satpol PP, BPBD, sub-districts, and kelurahan conducted an investigation to find the cause of foam in the Ciliwung River, and sealed a transit warehouse suspected of disposing waste into the river.
