Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Congratulates Prabowo: May You Be Amanah

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Prabowo Subianto in the Indonesian presidential election (Pilpres) in the 2024 General Election.

"I have contacted the Elected President of the Republic of Indonesia, Your Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, to congratulate him on his success in the recently ended Indonesian Presidential Election," Anwar said through uploads on his social media account, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 21.

Anwar said he was told that he was the first leader to congratulate Prabowo after the official announcement of the election results by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"This is quite meaningful because it symbolizes the value of the friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia which is very special as a neighboring country that is close and important," said Anwar.

"Congratulations on your success and I express my belief that Pak Prabowo will definitely be able to carry out the mandate given as well as possible for the progress and welfare of the Indonesian nation that is sustainable," he said.

"We are both determined to strengthen bilateral relations that include various aspects as neighboring countries and promise to work closely together in various multilateral forums, especially within the ASEAN scope," he said.

The Indonesian KPU has named the pair of candidates for President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winner in the presidential and vice presidential elections in the 2024 General Election.

The determination is contained in KPU Decree Number 360 of 2024 concerning the Determination of the results of the General Election of the President and Vice President, Members of the House of Representatives, Regional Representative Council, Provincial Regional House of Representatives, and National Regional House of Representatives/City in the General Election in 2024.

"The results of the national General Election as referred to in the First Dictum to the Fifth Dictum are set on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 22:18.19 minutes WIB," said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari.

Hasyim revealed that the Prabowo-Gibran pair won 96,214,691 votes. Meanwhile, he continued, the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair received 40,971,906 votes, and the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md 27,040,878 pair received votes.

The total valid ballots, according to him, amounted to 164,227,475 votes.
