Golkar Also Proposes Regional Head Elections For Mayors/Regents In Special Areas In Jakarta

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Golkar Party faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Basri Baco, admitted that his party proposed that the regional head elections (pilkada) at the mayor and regents in the Special Region of Jakarta. The direct election proposal for mayors and regents in Jakarta after the move of the capital to IKN was previously revealed by PKS. If the mayor and regents in Jakarta were elected, according to Baco, automatically there would also be an election for a level II DPRD or city/district level. "Regarding the mayor and regent chosen by the community. So, if there is a mayor/regent, then there is a level 2 DPRD," Baco told reporters, Wednesday, March 20. Then, to save the cost of organizing elections, Golkar also proposed that the Thousand Islands remain within the North Jakarta area. "The issue of the Thousand Islands is included in North Jakarta administration, combined, because there cost (cos) is much greater than income," said Baco. Previously, Chairman of the DKI Jakarta PKS PKS Regional Leadership Council (DPW) Khoirudin proposed direct election of mayors and regents, as well as DPRD level II or districts/cities in Jakarta after no longer having the status of the Capital City. Khoirudin assessed that the proposal needs to be considered in the Draft of the Special Region of Jakarta (RUU DKJ) which is currently being discussed in the DPR. According to the Deputy Chairperson of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, so far the board has not been able to optimally carry out the function of budget supervision and absorb the aspirations of the people in 5 cities and 1 administrative district of Jakarta. This is what Khoirudin sees the need for the formation of level II DPRD. "Indeed, the people of Jakarta are very large compared to the people in other crucial areas, they need to be served. The number of council members is few, rarely among us who are crossing all places," said Khoirudin on Friday, March 15.

Likewise with the role of regional heads. Khoirudin assessed that the mayor and regent who were appointed directly by the Governor could not understand the needs of their citizens optimally.
