Floods In Kudus Regency Killed 7 Residents

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kudus Regency reported that since last Thursday, seven residents have died due to the flood disaster that hit the area.

Head of the Emergency Section of BPBD Kudus Regency, Munaji, said that of these, six of them drowned, while one other person was electrocuted during the flood.

"There were six victims who drowned and one was electrocuted," said Munaji in his official statement, Tuesday, March 19.

As of Monday, the floods were still submerging five sub-districts in Kudus Regency, namely Mejobo, Jati, Undaan, Jekulo, and Kaliwungu. This disaster had an impact on 39,272 people, 4,188 of whom fled to refugee camps and relatives' houses. In addition, 2,295 hectares of rice fields were also flooded.

A joint team from the Kudus Regency BPBD continues to evacuate, monitor the affected locations, as well as distribution of logistics and medical services for residents in need.

There are 25 points of refugee camps spread across various villages and strategic locations.

Head of BNPB Lt. Gen. Suharyanto also provided assistance with funds and logistics needed for flood management. Assistance was given symbolically while chairing a flood management coordination meeting in Semarang City and received directly by the Kudus Regency Government.

Deputy for Emergency Handling Major General BNPB TNI Fajar Setyawan also immediately came to Jati Wetan Village, Kudus Regency to inspect evacuation posts and public kitchen services.
