The Takalar Police Criminal Investigation Unit team investigated the case of alleged beating of a priest until he was seriously injured named Hamzah Daeng Gassing (36) by a number of perpetrators in Balang Tanaya Village, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi (Sulsel). "Meanwhile, the number of perpetrators and the motive for the beating is still being investigated. Several witnesses were also investigated to reveal the perpetrators and their motives," said KBO Satreskrim Polres Takalar Iptu Chaidir as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday 19 March. So far, the team is still investigating and collecting evidence and other evidence including viral videos when the victim was beaten by a number of people. From the video footage, the incident on Friday last week was around 09.30 in Balang Tanaya Village, North Polong Bangkeng District, Takalar. It was seen that a number of perpetrators threw the victim and several other people chased him until he was cornered near the residents' houses. A number of women from the victim's family even shouted at the perpetrators to stop the perpetrators' actions of playing the judge themselves and asked for help from other residents, but the victim was still beaten to wounds in the thigh. Some residents tried to stop the beating action until the victim was sitting in front of one of the residents' houses, and at the end of the video, the victim was seen seriously injured, then taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to information circulating, there was a misunderstanding over allegations that the victim allegedly demeaned the honor of the wife of a local resident and his family, so that it was suspected that it triggered the offense and anger of the alleged perpetrators by attacking the victim. However, the police are still investigating the case, including the motive by examining witnesses. The information received after the incident the victim was treated at Ibnu Sina Hospital in Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
