JAKARTA - Residents of Kaliawi Urban Village, Bandar Lampung City, caught a 1 meter long estuarine crocodile in Kaliawi River. The presence of this crocodile unsettles residents.

The crocodile catching duel was also carried out by the residents in mutual cooperation using traditional snares.

"Monday, March 2 in the afternoon at around 16.00, we caught a crocodile using a traditional snare," said a resident of Kaliawi RT 4, Agus Santoso, in Bandarlampung as reported by Antara, Tuesday, March 2.

Crocodiles, according to Agus Santoso, have often been seen sunbathing on the banks of Kaliawi River in recent weeks.

"Actually, there are two (crocodiles) that are often seen, one small and one large. The ones caught are small ones," he said.

Since catching small crocodiles, large crocodiles are rarely seen again. Therefore, residents are fishing by using chicken meat that is hung around the bridge near the river.

"The crocodile measuring about 1 meter and weighing about 15 kilograms is currently at the RT head's house with his mouth and legs tied, because his strength is quite strong," he said.

The plan is for the crocodiles to be handed over to the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

"Later we will hand it over to the BKSDA and when they come here to collect the crocodile we will ask them to trace the Kaliawi River to look for the other crocodile," he said.
