Police Investigate Brawl Leading To Burn Motorcycles In Makassar

The Makassar Police Criminal Investigation Unit team is investigating a brawl between groups that led to the burning of an automatic motorbike on Jalan Haji Bau adjacent to the private residence of the 10th Vice President and 12th HM Jusuf Kalla in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"We are still investigating the chronology of the incident, we are still examining witnesses, including later we will check CCTV around the TKP (Purity Scene). We can get CCTV, which is the main route to get inside so that we find the real facts about what happened," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Makassar Polrestabes Kompol Devi Sujana, Sunday.

So far the team is still collecting a number of evidences including surveillance video footage to find out who survived or who attacked first at the time of the incident this morning, it is still in the process of being investigated.

"What we can do is what the preventive approach will be for the future. Regarding the burning motorbike, there was a commotion. There was a motorbike from an outside party that was burned by another party. But we will investigate the causes and chronology later," said the head of Unit 2 Sub-Directorate 3 of the General Criminal Directorate (Ditkrimum) of the Lampung Police.

Regarding the results of the field examination of anyone involved, he said, it would be conveyed after the investigation process was completed. When asked whether the brawl triggered the activity of 'Sahur on The Road', Devi said, it was still being investigated.

"We will conduct another investigation, we will tell you more clearly. Two people have been arrested at the time of the incident. Of course, we from the Criminal Investigation Unit in the field of repression will reveal the real facts," he stressed.

The former Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bandar Lampung Police emphasized that the police will carry out law enforcement against anyone who is wrong and the Criminal Investigation Unit continues to make repressive efforts as a precautionary measure.

"Why? Because the legal approach in terms of Criminal Investigation Unit is the best prevention to be repressive first. Later we will coordinate with Binmas, Intel, Sabhara and Polsek for further prevention," he explained.

For the escalation of security after the incident, his party immediately carried out monitoring and according to what the Police Chief and the South Sulawesi Police Chief ordered that the Sahur on The Road (distributing sahur on the road) activities were prohibited. "So carry out sahur activities in their respective homes, and their families," he added.

Previously, there was a brawl between groups on Jalan Haji Bau when it entered sahur time, Sunday (17/3) in the morning. This group attacked each other by throwing stones at each other using bows, arrows.

Joint forces from the TNI and Polri upon arrival at the location were forced to fire warning shots repeatedly to disperse the brawl because on the other hand they had burned one motorbike until it was scorched.

In addition, there were two suspected perpetrators of the brawl who almost died and were beaten and even held hostage by their opponents. Luckily, both of them were successfully evacuated by officers and then secured at the Mariso Police for questioning. The provisional suspicion of offense by the two groups of youths was due to the trigger for the sound of the Brong exhaust during a convoy on the sahur road.
