Illegal Race Perpetrators In Banjarmasin Arrested By Banteng Police, Indicated For Betting

JAKARTA - The Central Banjarmasin Police (Poldek Banteng) ranks of the South Kalimantan Police arrested 38 teenagers suspected of being involved in illegal racing and indicated making a bet.

"The dozens of teenagers involved in illegal racing were caught when we carried out patrols to anticipate thuggery in the month of Ramadan," said Central Banjarmasin Police Chief Kompol Eka Saprianto in Banjarmasin, Sunday (17/3) as quoted by Antara.

In addition, the police also confiscated 21 motorbikes during a patrol activity to create conditions that were carried out in the early hours of Sunday, starting at around 01.30 WITA until 04.00 WITA.

He said the scene of illegal racing in front of one of the modern rentals located on Cempaka Raya Street, the border between West Banjarmasin and Central Banjarmasin.

From the examination of members in the field, there are indications of a bet of Rp. 500 thousand, which was obtained from the cellphone of one of the arrested illegal racing actors.

The Head of the Central Banjarmasin Police, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Hendra Agustian Ginting, also said that the perpetrators of illegal racing who were arrested were trained because they were underage.

"We call their respective parents and make a statement not to repeat it again, while we secure the motorbike and to complete the physical and documents," he said.

Eka said, the purpose of this activity is to create a safe and conducive situation in the jurisdiction of the Central Banjarmasin Police, especially in the month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri.

Then, the next goal is to prevent, anticipate and minimize disturbances in Kamtibmas, especially acts of thuggery in this area and create a conducive situation for people who want to carry out Ramadan worship.

For areas that are monitored, including Lambung Mangkurat Street, Brigadier General Katamso Street, Pegadaian Street, General Sudirman Street, Meratus Street and Cempaka Raya Street.

The police chief while leading the active patrol also gave an appeal to the public to always be aware of criminals and immediately report to the Central Banjarmasin Police if they experience or know of a crime.
