The Judicial Commission (KY) has deployed a team to monitor the proceedings of a case involving a non-active member of the Kuala Lumpur Foreign Election Committee (PPLN) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN).

One of the monitors was a member of KY Joko Sasmito who carried out direct monitoring at the trial and on the behavior of judges.

" Monitoring of the trial of this case is a KY initiative for cases of public concern. KY heard a lot of news from the media and the public, so we see the need to go directly to the field," Joko said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 15.

It is known that seven people who were non-active members of PPLN Kuala Lumpur were charged with falsifying data and lists of foreign voters for the 2024 General Election in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The prosecutors said the defendants entered incorrect and invalid data because it did not match the results of the matching and research data (coclit) into the Temporary Voter List (DPS), became a DPS Improved Results (DPSHP), and was designated as a Permanent Voter List (DPT).

The defendants are also said to have moved the list of voters for the Voting Place (TPS) method to the Mobile Voice Box (KSK) and Post methods in data conditions and unknown or incomplete voter addresses.

Joko said that one of the considerations for monitoring was the public's great attention to the case.

The goal is to maintain the independence of judges in adjudicating and deciding this case. Monitoring of the trial is very important to prevent alleged ethical violations by the judges. The panel of judges is expected to be independent and implicit in deciding, without any intervention from any party," he said.

He reminded the panel of judges to examine, try, and decide the case of election crimes for a maximum of seven days.

Monitoring of the 2024 General Election criminal trial is a follow-up to the Declaration of Supervision of Elections and Regional Head Elections for Honest and Fair Justices conducted by KY with Bawaslu, KPU, Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, and Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem).

The involvement of these parties is a form of commitment in supporting the smooth implementation of the 2024 General Election which is clean and fair.

Joko said, until March 15, 2024, KY had monitored 41 criminal proceedings for the 2024 General Election in all provinces in Indonesia.

"KY predicts that the vulnerability of the 2024 election case is still the same as the 2019 election. Cases prone to entering the court are about the large number of money politics, campaigns using state facilities, campaigns in places of worship, and violations of neutrality," concluded Joko.
