KPK Reveals Extortion Money Collected Up To IDR 6.3 Billion In 4 Years

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the value of illegal levies (extortion) in its prison environment reached Rp6.3 billion. This number was collected by the suspects for four years.

This was revealed by Asep after announcing 15 people were suspects in extortion at the KPK detention center. Among them are the Head of the KPK Detention Center Achmad Fauzi, former Acting KPK Karutan Deden Rochendi and Ristanta, and Hengki who are ex-Kamtib Detention Centers.

"It takes 2019 to 2023, the amount of money received by HK (Hengki) et al is around Rp. 6.3 billion," said KPK Investigating Director Asep Guntur at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, March 15.

Asep said that the billions were obtained from detainees in corruption cases. The amount varies from Rp. 300 thousand to Rp. 20 million, the delivery is carried out directly in cash or through the account of the village head and correlator-controlled holding bank.

The withdrawal of money from these detainees is intended so that they get exclusive facilities. "In the form of accelerating the isolation period, services using cellphones and power banks to inspection information," said Asep.

"Meanwhile, prisoners who do not or are late in depositing are given uncomfortable treatment, including detention rooms being locked from outside, violations, and reducing sports rations and receiving more guard rations and hygiene pickets," he continued.

Furthermore, this money was distributed in various amounts. Achamd Fauzi and Ristanta each received Rp. 10 million, while the commanders and ordinary officers received Rp. 500 thousand to Rp. 1 million.

The current 15 suspects have been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center, including Achmad Fauzi. The extortion effort began to be designed in 2019 at a cafe in the Tebet area.
