Minister Of Home Affairs: Jakarta Agglomeration Council Formed To Manage Traffic Jams To Floods

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said the council of the Jakarta agglomeration area and its surroundings were formed to make it easier for the government to overcome various urban problems such as congestion to flooding.

"There are many common problems such as flood problems, transportation problems, waste problems, pollution and all kinds of things, so there needs to be coordination, synchronization, harmonization for development planning," Tito said when he visited the office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, March 15.

According to Tito, Jakarta no longer has natural boundaries for areas with other buffer areas.

This makes several problems in Jakarta sustainable with conditions in the surrounding area such as floods, pileup of garbage to traffic jams.

Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs assessed that cooperation and collaboration between city governments were needed to solve the problem from upstream to downstream.

Tito also gave an example of the same conditions as in Papua which used a special autonomy policy from the central government for equitable development.

"We take templates in Papua, in Papua there also needs to be harmonization between city and provincial districts and the central government to accelerate the development of Papua," he said.

However, unlike Papua, Tito ensured that the chairman of the Jakarta Agglomeration Council would be directly elected by the president through a presidential decree.

"What will the composition be like to be handed over to the president," said Minister of Home Affairs Tito.
