JAKARTA - The leader of the militant group Hezbollah Hassan Nasralla assessed that Hamas had not been defeated and called the United States hypocritical, while vowing to continue the fight against Israel, claiming the Israeli military kept their defeat a secret in the north.
"(Our southern front) continues to carry out its duties to suppress the enemy at the human, material, military and economic levels," Nasrallah said in a televised statement Wednesday evening local time.
The fighting has continued since October 7 on the southern border of Lebanon with Israel between the Iran-backed Hezbollah armed group and the Israeli military. As a result, Israel ordered the evacuation of people along the Lebanese border.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had killed many of the militants and Hezbollah commanders since October 7. On Monday, the Israeli military said it had attacked two Hezbollah complexes in Lebanese Bekaa Valley, the furthest region Israel has attacked in northern Lebanon since the latest Israeli-Gaza conflict began.
In his speech, Nasrallah claimed the Israeli prime minister had "lost the war" in Gaza, while the Israeli invasion of Rafah would not change that.
"After five months of fighting, (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) was unable to show any victory," he said, adding Hamas had not been defeated and could still impose his terms in the negotiations.
The Hezbollah leader said, "although there have been many massacres, the Gazan people will not surrender to you," adding "the Gazan people are still accepting resistance," the Times of Israel said, referring to Prime Minister Netanyahu.
"Who are you negotiating with if Hamas is defeated?" said Nasrallah.

In addition, Nasrallah also criticized the US stance on the Israeli-Gaza conflict, calling it "munafik".
"I don't think anyone in this world believes (US President Joe) Biden can't stop the war in Gaza," he said, adding President Biden could stop fighting by stopping military aid to Israel and not hindering calls for UN Security Council resolutions to the ceasefire.
