Weak Monitoring, Corona Patients Escape From The Isolation Room

JAKARTA - The outbreak of the corona virus, aka COVID-19, is at the center of the world's attention, Indonesia is no exception. Various steps to prevent the spread of the virus were carried out. People who have the potential to contract COVID-19 continue to be monitored. Meanwhile, patients who are already showing symptoms are immediately placed in an isolation room.

However, in the midst of efforts to prevent the spread, a positive Corona patient reportedly escaped from the isolation room of the Friendship Central General Hospital (RSUP).

Spokesperson (Jubir) of the Central General Hospital (RSUP) Friendship dr. Erlina Burhan explained that the patient who left was a waiter. He was secretly discharged from the hospital at night, when the isolation room was deserted.

"Out of the friendship (hospital) without us knowing, this is whether he was then picked up by (his family) and treated at the hospital," Erna said in Jakarta, Friday, March 13.

This incident occurred around last week. Although, the hospital is guarded by security guards, the patient takes advantage of the guard's carelessness to leave. In addition, the conditions of the isolation room in this hospital were not locked. This possibility makes it easy for patients to leave the hospital.

Based on a temporary investigation, the reason the patient ran away was because he did not want to be placed in an isolation room together with other patients.

Erlina said this isolation room had followed the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) because it was equipped with facilities or negative room pressure technology to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

"That our room has negative pressure, so for transmission it is very, very unlikely and also for the return and prevention of infection it requires the bed to be at least 2 meters apart and that is done, you imagine the room so that there can be 2 beds with a distance of 2 meters, so that's already. meet the criteria, "said Erlina.

Erlina added, this patient who escaped was confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 from a report from the DKI Jakarta Health Service. The patient was referred to the RSUP for intensive care.

"We got it from the Health Office (referred to). The Health Office said so (Positive)," he said.

The Indonesian Association of Public Health Experts (IAKMI) Hermawan Saputra said that the escape of this patient was the responsibility of the government. But furthermore, he considered, the government was weak in dealing with the corona outbreak in Indonesia. Starting from a bad information protocol and no detailed explanation regarding the role of multi-stakeholders related to efforts to prevent this virus.

Thus, when an incident like this occurs, it seems as if government agencies are confused about making the right efforts.

"Regarding the epidemic, it must be the responsibility of the government. Because there was a communication error, the handling was unclear," said Hermawan.
