Batu City Hit By Strong Winds: Fallen Tree, Damaged House, But No Casualties

JAKARTA - Rain accompanied by strong winds that occurred in the Batu City area, Malang, East Java, Tuesday, causing a number of houses to be damaged due to the impact of extreme weather in the area.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batu Agung Sedayu City in Batu City, Tuesday, said that the roof of one of the residents' houses on Jalan Mangga, Gondoejo Hamlet, Oro-Oro Ombo Village, Batu District was damaged.

"Rain accompanied by strong winds caused the roof of Ainani's mother's house with dimensions of 12 meters long and 10 meters wide to collapse," said Agung.

Agung explained that the incident of the collapse of the roof of a resident's house due to extreme weather occurred at around 10.30 WIB. BPBD Kota Batu together with related agencies, provided temporary assistance for handling the damaged house.

According to Agung, apart from Gondoprejo Hamlet, a number of houses were also reported to have been damaged around the Among Tani Main Market area located on Dewi Sartika Street, Temas Village, Batu District.

"This incident occurred at 12.10 WIB. Rain accompanied by strong winds caused the roof of the Among Tani Main Market waste disposal site (TPS) to fly," he said, quoted by Antara.

He added that the roof of the building that flew due to strong winds fell on three houses belonging to residents around the Among Tani Main Market. The three houses reportedly suffered minor damage.

In addition to causing damage to a number of houses belonging to residents, he continued, extreme weather in Batu City also caused trees to fall in the Luhur Giri Arjuno Temple area, Tulungrejo Village, Bumiaji District. The incident occurred at 12.12 WIB.

"The cypress tree with a dimensions of 30 meters long and a diameter of 80 centimeters fell and closed the road access to Luhur Giri Arjuno Temple," he said.

Based on BPBD Kota Batu records, there are two other points where a fallen tree occurred, namely Jalan Brantas, Ngaglik Village and Jalan Imam Bonjol, Keluhan Sepir. In a number of these disasters, no casualties were reported.

BPBD Kota Batu appealed to people who are active outside the home to be careful due to the impact of extreme weather, which could cause a number of damage and have an impact on the loss of life due to falling trees and others.
