PASAMAN BARAT - Floods hit a number of locations in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra due to high rainfall.

"Information until Thursday night floods hit a number of points in the Talamau District and Kinali District," said Head of Prevention and Preparedness of the West Pasaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Zulkarnain, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 7.

Floods occurred in Jorong Limpato Nagari (Village) Kajai, Talamau District, Jorong, Nagari Talau Talamau Association, Tempurung Market, Kinali District, and in Tampunik and Padang Baru Village, Rajo Nagari, Ampek Koto Barat Kinali.

According to him, high-intensity rain caused flooding at several points in the two sub-districts.

"Temporary data in the Limpato Kajai area, the water overflowed onto the roads and houses of residents. In Tempurung Kinali Market there were four houses affected by the flood and the Nagari Talu Talamau Air Association overflowed onto the roads and houses of residents," he said.

Currently, he said, the BPBD team has gone to the field to monitor and provide assistance to flood victims.

"How many houses were flooded are still being recorded. Temporary information there were no casualties," he said.

West Pasaman has five rivers that are subject to flooding every time heavy rains hit the area, namely Batang Pasaman River, Sikabau Batang, Batang Bayang, Batang Batahan, and Hajj Water River.

"Every time it rains heavily, the river always overflows and inundates the houses of local residents," he said.
