Homecoming 2024, People Are Advised To Avoid Travel On Joint Leave Day

In order to avoid the congestion of homecoming on the Eid or Eid Al-Fitr 2024 holidays, people are advised not to travel back and forth simultaneously at the peak of the flow.

This appeal was conveyed in a cross-sector coordination meeting (rakor) on readiness to manage the 2024 Eid homecoming traffic flow organized by Korlantas Polri in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 5.

The Director of Traffic of the Ministry of Transportation, Ahmad Yani, said that although his party did not have the authority to arrange the holiday schedule and leave that had been set by the government, they appealed to the public not to travel back and forth on the same date.

"Regarding the holiday schedule, please arrange it. Don't go home at the same time, because the toll road can't accommodate everything. The Ministry of Transportation cannot regulate, what we can do is socialize, don't go together," said Ahmad Yani.

"The departure schedule can be regulated, because there is national leave. This is so as not to go at the same time, for example on D-2," said Yani.

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) estimates that there will be 136.7 million movements of people going back and forth and traveling in Lebaran 2024, an increase of 5-6% from the previous year's 123 million vehicles.

Of this number, the Ministry of Transportation considers the majority of travelers moving towards Central Java at 26%, 19% towards East Java, and 16% towards West Java.

The National Police together with other stakeholder agencies have agreed to regulate traffic flow, starting from one-way systems, contraflows, odd-even, to delay travel at ports, in order to anticipate traffic jams.
