Amien Rais Asks Ma'ruf Amin To Remind Jokowi About The Presidential Regulation On Alcohol Investment: This Is Wrong Sir

JAKARTA - Amien Rais regretted President Joko Widodo's attitude in issuing Presidential Regulation Number 10 of 2021. In the Presidential Regulation, Jokowi opened liquor investment in a number of provinces.

In fact, Amien Rais asked Vice President Ma'ruf Amin to remind Jokowi that his decision was a mistake.

"Mr. Ma'ruf Amin, can you say 'Mr. President, this is wrong sir. Please, sir. I was also elected, sir. I have the same position.' If it's Kyai Ma'ruf Amin who I think understands Islamic fiqh well, then it can't be wrong, please stop this," said Amien in Amien Rais Official Youtube, Sunday, February 28.

Amien Rais said that Jokowi had made a fatal step morally and politically because he had allowed investment in alcoholic beverage production companies.

"Mr. Jokowi, you are actually destroying the morality of the nation. Obviously what Mr. Jokowi is doing is directly crashing the provisions of the Koran, where alcohol and gambling are big sins," said the former Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia.

Jokowi's move is at stake for the younger generation. Because, he stressed, there were still many people who bought and sold liquor before the Presidential Regulation 10/2021.

"Even without being legalized, our situation is already like that. Moreover, this is a trend in society that we should close. Do not let moral destruction occur, by letting our younger generation drinking alcohol," he said.

It is known, the government has approved the liquor industry as a positive investment list (DPI) since this year. Previously, the liquor industry was known to fall into the closed business sector category.

The ratification is based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 10 of 2021 concerning the Investment Business Field. The regulation which is a derivative rule of Law (UU) Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation has been signed by President Joko Widodo and comes into effect as of February 2, 2021.

However, the approval to invest in this industry constitutes a new investment. This investment can only be made in the Province of Bali, Province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Province of North Sulawesi, and Province of Papua by paying attention to local culture and wisdom.
