Reduce Floods In Bekasi And Karawang, Ministry Of PUPR Builds Cibeet And Cijurey Dams

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR) has built Cibeet Dam and Cijurey Dam in Bogor Regency, West Java, to reduce flood-prone points in Bekasi and Karawang Regencies.

"These two dams were built for flood control downstream of the Citarum River, such as in Muara Gembong, Bekasi and Karawang. We hope that the community can support the construction of these two dams, which will also be followed by the construction of a number of embankments downstream," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, quoted by Antara in Jakarta, Sunday.

The construction of the two dams, said Basuki, could reduce the risk of flooding downstream of the Citarum River.

Basuki explained that the construction of the Cibeet Dam and Cijurey Dam were each carried out in three different packages. The cost of building the two dams uses a multi-year contract scheme with a contract value for the Cibeet Dam of IDR 5.5 trillion, and Cijurey Dam of IDR 3.7 trillion.

According to data from the Ministry of PUPR, the Cibeet Dam Package I was carried out by service provider PT Nindya Karya-PT Adhi Karya-PT Bahagia Bangun Nusa (KSO) which includes the work on the left of the main dam and the embezzlement building.

Package II is done by contractor PT PP-PT Marfri Jaya Abadi-PT Daya Mulia Turangga (KSO) which includes main dam (right) work, public facilities buildings, and access roads. Package III was carried out by PT Waskita Karya-PT Bumi Karsa-PT KPR (KSO) which includes main dams (medium), delegation buildings, and takers.

The Cibeet Dam was built in Cariu District with an inundation area of 735.61 hectares (ha) which was able to accommodate an effective volume of 22.53 million cubic meters, a dead volume of 28.75 million cubic meters, and a total capacity volume of 97.53 million cubic meters.

The Cijurey Dam is planned to have an effective capacity volume of 9.76 million cubic meters. The dam, which is administratively located in Sukamakmur, Cariu, and Tanjungsari sub-districts, is projected to reduce flooding from the upstream of the Cihoe River by 59.33 percent, and is used to irrigate 561 hectares of irrigation. In addition, to produce raw water of 0.71 m3/second and hydropower of 2x0.5 MW.
