There have been six eruptions in a row from Mount Marapi in Agam and Tanah Datar Regencies, West Sumatra, Saturday from 00.00 to 12.00 WIB. This report was revealed by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

"In addition to six eruptions, in the same period there were 22 gusts of Mount Marapi," said Mount Marapi Volcano Observation Post officer Ahmad Rifandi in Padang, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, March 2.

The first eruption occurred at 00.03 WIB with an amplitude of five millimeters for 25 seconds. The second eruption occurred at 06.22 WIB with a column height of ash observed at about 300 meters. The column of ash is gray with thick intensity leaning towards the west. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 4.6 millimeters with a duration of about 49 seconds.

The third eruption occurred at 07.05 WIB with an ash column height of about 350 meters. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters for 44 seconds. PVMBG recorded the eruption of Mount Marapi at 08.39 WIB with a maximum amplitude of 11.9 millimeters and a duration of about 35 seconds, then the eruption occurred at 09.23 WIB with a column height of ash being observed about 500 meters above the peak.

"The volcanic eruption is still volatile, and it could be because the system is already open so that it is easier for eruptions and gusts to occur," he said.

He said that although the number of volcanic eruptions was still volatile, people were advised not to panic. Moreover, the government has set a safe zone for the community.

"We also urge that if volcanic ash leads to settlements, people are advised to wear masks and head coverings," he concluded.
