JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon met with the Secretary of State of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of The 14th Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan. During the meeting, cooperation was agreed in various fields.
As one of the pioneers of the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement (GNB) which is a forum for world countries that are committed to realizing peace and do not lie with any block, Indonesia has its own space in the international arena as a role model for countries that uphold the principle of being free to be active in foreign politics.
This was appreciated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov when holding a bilateral meeting with Fadli Zon at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Building on February 23, 2024, among the 14th Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) activities located in Baku, Azerbaijan.
On this occasion, Minister Jeyhun also congratulated Indonesia on the implementation of simultaneous general elections (elections) which had just taken place safely, peacefully and democratically. "Congratulations on the election that has taken place in Indonesia. We hope to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia in the new leadership era," he said.
On this occasion, Fadli Zon also appreciated the implementation of the presidential election in Azerbaijan which was held exactly one week before Indonesia. "The relationship between Indonesia and Azerbaijan has been quite strong so far, but it is necessary to increase connectivity and people to people connections, which can strengthen the relationship between social, cultural, economic, and other strategic fields," said Fadli Zon in a written statement received by VOI.
One of the things that need to be highlighted, continued Fadli, is related to the potential for cooperation in the tourism sector, especially considering that Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world that has millions of tourism potential.
Minister Jeyhun welcomed this and hoped that this could be realized because Azerbaijan also has various interesting tourism potentials.

In addition, Minister Jeyhun also expressed his gratitude for Indonesia's support so far, both through parliamentary diplomatic bridges, as well as in various international forums, where Indonesia has always supported Azerbaijan's efforts in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity. "We thank you for the support for Azerbaijan's struggle to free up occupied territory for decades and how this region is now being rebuilt," he said.
He also hopes that through NAM, relations between Indonesia and Azerbaijan can be more closely established, especially because the two countries both uphold foreign principles that do not side with any block, and strive to realize global peace and stability through dialogue and cooperation.
Fadli Zon who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, added that through the Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB) of the DPR RI-Azerbaijan Parliament, currently there has been a fairly close interaction between the parliaments of the two countries. "Hopefully it can be the foundation for strengthening the bilateral cooperation framework of the two countries, in order to achieve common goals," Fadli Zon hoped.
