The public prosecutor of the Aceh Besar District Attorney (Kejari) has transferred cases or cases of smuggling Rohingya immigrants with three foreign national suspects to the Jantho District Court.

"The public prosecutor has transferred the case files along with three suspects or potential defendants and evidence of smuggling Rohingya immigrants," said Head of the General Crimes Section of the Aceh Besar Kejari Firman in Banda Aceh, reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 23.

The three suspects are Anisul Hoque or AH (27), a Bangladeshi citizen, then Habibul Basyar or HB (53) and Mohammed Amin or MA (35), both are citizens of Myanmar.

Firman said the three were charged with violating Article 120 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 6 Year 2011 concerning immigration in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.

"The threat of imprisonment is a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 15 years in prison. As well as a fine of at least Rp. 500 million and a maximum of Rp. 1.5 billion," said Firman.

Previously, the three foreign nationals were suspected of smuggling 134 Rohingya immigrants. The alleged smuggling of immigrants began on November 30, 2023.
